Graham

One of the high points of last fall’s issue of Santa Rosa magazine was photographer John Burgess’ picture essay on the “hidden studios,” where downtown Santa Rosa artists create their work unseen among us, while routine daily life goes on all round them.

Since then, one of the artists featured, sculptor Daniel Graham, has decided to open his doors to the public.

“I am changing my sculpture studio into a studio gallery, to make it more accessible to more people,” Graham said. “I have a really nice showroom here, but people don’t know it’s there, even though it’s right in the middle of town.”

Don’t worry about trying to read the fine print in the poster above.  Just enjoy the picture. Here’s all the information:

“Spirits of the Earth,” the first exhibit at the D. G. Sculpture Studio Gallery, 25A Maxwell Court, Santa Rosa, opens with a reception from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12.

The show continues through Jan. 7. Gallery hours 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Information: 546-1541, dgsculpture@comcast.com, www.danielgraham.com.

Graham has a rich and varied artistic background. He studied weaving in Mexico, drawing and painting in France and Belgium, and flamenco in Spain.

Now he concentrates on large reliefs and three-dimensional sculpture.  You can see an example of his work — a  large relief sculpture titled “Woman with Birds” — at the entrance of the 6th Street Playhouse near Railroad Square.
