If you’re looking for an arts center, you might not think of starting in Forestville, but you’d be wrong. Khysie Horn’s Quicksilver Mine Co. gallery in Forestville is both a showcase for artists and a gathering place for art lovers.

If you’ve never been to the gallery, January is a great time to make your first visit.

Horn opens her annual “Bakers Dozen” group exhibition, featuring the work of 13 Northern California artists, on Jan. 22.

The show features work by 13 mixed media collage artists, including:

* Encaustic wax collages by Susan Stover.

* A free-form, freestanding room screen by Lois Stopple.

* Armando Ramos’ “superhero” paper collage and wood wall sculptures.

* Delicate cut and torn paper works by Sherry Parker, Harley, Micah Schwaberow and Deborah Salomon.

* Chiyomi Taneike Longo’s large abstract Sumi ink-on-newsprint paintings.

* Mixed media collages on canvas by Louise Forbush and Cecily Axt.

* Narrative compositions using antique books and found material by emerging Petaluma artist Cynthia Granados.

* New large works by Jenny Honnert Abell and Kirk Hinshaw.

The artists’ reception for “Bakers Dozen 2010” will be 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan.23. The show continues through Feb. 28.

The Quicksilver Mine Co. is at 6671 Front St. (Highway 116) in downtown Forestville.  Gallery hours are 11 a.m.—6 p.m. Thursday through Monday.
