Rock ‘n’ roll is still here to stay, and the Santa Rosa Junior College Theatre Arts Department underscores the point with a new production of “Grease,” the Broadway musical set in the ’50s, opening Friday, April 23.

First-nighters will get an extra treat, said Leslie McCauley, the department’s artistic director.

“On opening night of our production of  ‘Grease,’ we are going to have 10 1950s cars from the Redwood Empire Classic Chevy Car Club. They will be parked out front of the theater on the circular drive and their owners will all be in 1950s clothing. ”

The vintage car rally starts at 7 p.m. Friday at Burbank Circle, in front of  the Burbank Auditorium on campus, 1801 Mendocino Ave. , Santa Rosa. And the show starts inside the auditorium at 8 p.m.

The play, directed by Laura Downing-Lee with choreography by Lara Branen, will run through May 2.

Admission: $8-$12; $5  for the April 24 matinee only. Information: 527-4343, santarosa.edu.

Advisory: The show contains some adult content and language. Recommended for age 14 and up.
