There are so many local fund-raising events, all for good causes, and so many pleas for publicity.

One does try to be fair and objective in evaluating all these requests, and yet, when the worthy cause is a newspaper, one tends to perk right up and pay attention (especially if one is a lifelong print journalist.)

“Newsapalooza,” a benefit for the Santa Rosa Junior College journalism program and its Oak Leaf newspaper, starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at the North Bay Film and Art Collective, Sixth and Wilson Streets, Santa Rosa.  Doors open at 6 p.m.

Looking at it objectively, the lineup looks pretty good. The show will be hosted by the World’s Biggest Comedy Duo which, true to its name, often features up to 10 or 11 comedians.

And there’ll be live music by Fishbear, Starskate, Low Five, Secret Cat, Lion’s Hill and Jungle Under Kings. The evening includes food, prizes and a raffle. Beer and wine will be served, but you’ll need your ID.

Admission costs $10 at the door; free for children under age 12.

The sponsor of the event is another newspaper, the North Bay Bohemian.

Devotees of ink on paper, arise and unite in support of student journalists!
