John LeBaron

John LeBaron knows how to take great pictures. He’s been doing it for a long time.

After he graduated from Santa Rosa Junior College in 1948, he went to work at The Press Democrat. When he left 20 years later, he was chief photographer.

John’s wife Gaye, of course, is rather well-known locally herself, as a longtime Press Democrat columnist and local historian.

In 1968, John started teaching photography at SRJC and continued doing that until his retirement in 1997. But he still makes, and exhibits, his own pictures.

From Saturday, July 10, through Aug. 2, fellow artist Mario Uribe will display a show of John LeBaron photos, titled “Stream of Conciousness,” at the Uribe Studios Backstreet Gallery in Santa Rosa’s atmospheric and artistic A Street neighborhood.

There will be a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. For details, call Uribe at 303-5925.
