‘Young Frankenstein,’ the stage musical based on the Mel Brooks movie, opens with shows at 2 and 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 30,  at the Golden Gate Theatre, 1 Taylor St., San Francisco.

Tony Award winners Roger Bart and Shuler Hensley reprise their Broadway roles as Dr. Frankenstein and the Monster.

Created by Brooks and Thomas Meechan, “Young Frankenstein” is their followup to the stage adaptation of another classic Brooks comedy film, “The Producers.” The musical version of  “The Producers” ran on Broadway for six years, won 12 Tony Awards and prompted a second movie version.

Released in 1974, the film “Young Frankenstein” was a loving but pointed spoof of classic horror films. It starred Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, Teri Garr and Kenneth Mars.

The musical version of “Young Frankenstein” is scheduled to run through July 25. Admission: $30-$99. Information: (415) 512-7770, shnsf.com.
