Jim Sobo, a California singer and songwriter who transplanted to Prescott, Arizona, in the 1990s, was pleased and surprised to find lively music scene there.

To spread the word, he has taken the Prescott musicians on the road with his annual Howling Coyote Tour, now in its fifth year.

“We’re trying to extend our musical community here to other musical communities. We’re trying to get these artists the recognition and exposure I feel they deserve,”” Sobo said.

The tour plays the Lagunitas Brewing Company’s Taproom and Beer Sanctuary, 1280 N. McDowell Blvd., Petaluma, starting at 4:20 p.m. today (Wednesday, July 7). Information: (707) 778-8776, www.lagunitas.com.

The tour moves to the Stout Brothers Irish Pub, 527 Fourth St., Santa Rosa, from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday (July 8). Information: (707) 636-0240, www.stoutbrospub.com.

There also will be stops in Napa, San Francisco and Walnut Creek.

This year’s tour features some new acts, including the multi-instrumental acoustic duo Nixon (Nic and Sonny) and bluesman Ritchie Rhinehardt. For more information on the tour: www.howlingcoyotetour.com.
