The Jets, from the Broadway production of the 'West Side Story' revival.

“When you’re a Jet, when you’re a Jet, you’re a Jet all the way, from your first cigarette, to your last dyin’ day.”

“West Side Story” premiered in 1957, and the creation of its inspiration, Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet,” has been dated as early as 1597.

But Stephen Sondheim’s lyrics — as well as Arthur Laurent’s book, Leonard Bernstein’s music and Jerome Robbins’ choreography — remain as fresh and fascinating as ever.

And, after all, street gangs are still with us.

SHN (Shorenstein Hays Nederlander) will present the touring production the Broadway revival of the show, starting Thursday, Oct. 27, and running through Nov. 28, at the Orpheum Theatre, 1192 Market St., San Francisco.

Admission: $30-$99. Information: (888) 746-1799, www.shnsf.com.
