Gael Garcia Bernal in 'Even The Rain' (2010 Moreno Films)

The Wine Country Film Festival will screen “Even the Rain,” a nominee for best foreign language film at the last Academy Awards, at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Summerfield Cinemas, 551 Summerfield Road, Santa Rosa.

Released in Spain as “Tambien la Lluvia,’ the drama weaves together three stories spanning five centuries.

Gael Garcia Bernal stars as Sebastian, a film director working on location in Bolivia in 2000, when conflict breaks over an attempt the privatize the water supply.

Admission costs $10, and includes a wine tasting reception before the film, at 3:30 p.m., and a panel discussion about water rights and public water policy after the film, starting at 5:45 p.m.

The panel will include Jim Bouler, a member of a committee working to form the Mark West Community Services District; Jim Graham, spokesman for Felton Friends of Locally Owned Water; Dennis Welsh, retired Wastewater Manager of Novato Sanitary District; Robert Rex, winemaker and owner of Deerfield Ranch Winery.
