Sonoma County artist Terence Howell believes in taking his art to the people.

Sidestepping the gallery circuit, he showed his work last winter at a small shopping center coffee shop in Santa Rosa.

This month he’s showing large oil paintings in the coffee shop area of Borders Books, 2825 Santa Rosa Ave., Santa Rosa.

The exhibit, running through Sept. 2, is a tribute to American realist painter, photographer and sculptor Thomas Eakins.

Howell he said he chose Eakins for this project because the artist “painted the passing of time, the awareness of mortality and the nobility of everyday life.”
