Bernini's 'Medusa'

All those who go to San Francisco, be sure to wear some serpents in your hair.

The exhibit doesn’t open until Nov. 17, but Halloween seems the perfect time to mention that the priceless 17th-century sculpture of the monstrous Medusa of Greek myth is coming to San Francisco.

Created by Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598-1680) and on loan from the Musei Capitolini in Rome, “Medusa” will be on display until Feb. 19 at the Legion of Honor. This is the exclusive U.S. showing.

The statue, created sometime between 1638 and 1648, will be on display in the museum’s Baroque Gallery 6.

Museum admission: $6-10; free 12 and younger.

Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
