William Shakespeare

From Reed Martin of Sonoma, co-author of most of the Reduced Shakespeare Company’s string of internationally popular hit shows, comes a report about a new show in town.

A new professional troupe calling itself the Sonoma Valley Shakespeare Company is presenting three plays in repertory this fall.

Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” opened Sept. 13 and runs through Nov. 3. The Bard’s “Julius Caesar” opens Thursday, Sept. 27, and runs through Nov. 2. And Christopher Marlowe’s “Doctor Faustus” runs Oct. 11 through Nov. 1.

The company’s founder and artistic director is Sonoma native Aidan O’Reilly, the first visually impaired student to receive a bachelor’s degree from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

The company also includes Chad Bradford, Sharon Combs and Jocelyn Joy Murphy.

All performances are in the Little Theatre at Sonoma Valley High School,  20000 Broadway, Sonoma, where the troupe is teaching workshop classes. Some students also appear in the shows.

Martin is not involved in the new company, but he does have an interest.

“In the interest of full disclosure,” Martin added, “my wife, Jane Martin, is the drama teacher at SVHS.”

Tickets: $10-$15.
