Marga Gomez

The HopMonk Tavern in Novato will host a “Comedy For Equality” show, starring Bay Area comedians Marga Gomez and Johnny Steele, on Friday, March 29.

All of the proceeds will be donated to Spectrum Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Center in San Rafael.

Singer and songwriter Michelle Shocked was originally scheduled to play the venue on that date, but her show was canceled in the wake of her anti-gay remarks from the stage of Yoshi’s in San Francisco on March 17.

Some of her other performances at other venues also were canceled. Shocked later apologized.

Tickets to “Comedy For Equality” cost $20 online at www.hopmonk.com or $25 at the door.

You must be 18 years old or older to attend.

The Hopmonk Tavern in Novato is at 224 Vintage Way.

The show will start at 8 p.m. in the venue’s Session Room. Doors open at 7 p.m.

Information: (415) 892-6200.

There are also HopMonk Taverns in Sebastopol and Sonoma. All three are owned by Dean Biersch.
