If you’re spinning the tuner dial on your car radio and happen to stop on 95.5 FM, you might notice that something sounds funny.

Don’t worry. There’s nothing wrong with your signal.  You’ve found Funny 95.5 comedy radio.

The Santa Rosa station, which made its debut a year ago, is part of the Wine Country Radio group that also includes The Krush 95.9 and Bob 96.7 FM.

The station gets most of its programming from 24/7 Comedy Radio,  a satellite-driven format distributed to stations across the United State and Canada, said Brandon Green, program director for both Funny and Bob FM, which plays music hits from the ’60s to the present.

The comics featured on Funny 95.5 range from current stars like Louis CK and Daniel Tosh to such old favorites as Richard Pryor and George Carlin. Political humor from both wings gets equal time, with Will Durst on the left and Dennis Miller on the right, Green said.

“We’re not taking sides,” Green said. “And it’s all clean.” (Not tame, but clean.)

There are a few bonuses, too, including bits from musical comedies and classic radio routines from the likes of Abbott & Costello.

Green also has reached out to recognize the local comedy scene.

“We’ve had the local comedians come in and record station promos and tell a joke,” he said. “And we promote local comedy shows.”

The fan base for Funny 95.5 is growing, Green said.

“This has never been done in Sonoma County before and the response has been positive, both online and at local events,” he said.
