'Silence' by Manok Cohen

“Silence,” a two-panel (or dyptich) painting by Healdsburg artist Manok Cohen, will go on display Wednesday, Oct. 2, at the Spinster Sisters restaurant in Santa Rosa.

The two panels of “Silence” measure 36 by 48 inches each.

Born in Laos to a Vietnamese mother and a French father, Cohen was sent to be raised in Normandy, France, after the outbreak of the Vietnam War, according to the artist’s web site..

After high school, she spent a decade in the South of France weaving tapestries, then moved to Paris to work for the fashion house Kenzo, and began painting on a larger scale.

The artist settled in Sonoma County in the the early ’90s.

There will be an opening reception for the artist from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the restaurant, 401 South A St., Santa Rosa.
