Dan Hicks

Dan Hicks

Dan Hicks is one of those guys that is always coming out to play one more gig, and it’s always fun to see him.

Hicks and his Hot Licks will stage their seasonal concert, “Holidaze in Hicksville,” at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at the Raven Theater, 115 North St., Healdsburg. ($25-$35. 433-6335, raventheater.org.)

His sense of humor is evident in everything he does, so it fits that his holiday CD is titled “My Main Man Santa.” And one of the other songs is “A Yule That’s Cool.”

Some of you may recall that Hicks has a long local history.

After attending Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa, he joined the San Francisco band The Charlatans in 1965. He left in 1968 to start Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks. He also led the Acoustic Warriors in the ’90s. He continues to perform with an updated Hot Licks lineup, and has done side gigs in the Bay Area with the Christmas Jug Band.
