Practically everybody has heard the song “Mack the Knife.”

That song originally came from “The Threepenny Opera,” by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill.

Now there’s a new version of that stage classic, called “3penny Cabaret,” a contemporary musical created by Roustabout Theater, the resident company at Wells Fargo Center. It opens with “Mack the Knife”

The premiere production features Roustabout’s new Journeymen Company, made up of college-age performers who trained at Roustabout’s apprentice program for young performers. The show opens in a conference room at the center and then moves around the grounds, as the audience follows.

This show is not recommended for audiences under 14, because it contains harsh language and mature situations.

Performance times are 8:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, July 22 -25, at Wells Fargo Center for the Arts, 50 Mark West Springs Road, Santa Rosa.

Tickets cost $15. Go to www.roustabout-theater.org or www.brownpapertickets.com online, or call (800) 838-3006.
