There are school plays, and then there’s this production.

Students from more than a dozen Northern California schools will perform in “Les Miserables: School Edition,” opening at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at the Spreckels Performing Arts Center, 5409 Snyder Lane, Rohnert Park.

The show is directed by Scott van der Horst of whatAshow.com productions, with musical direction by long-beloved local choral director Dan Earl.

This version of the Broadway hit, adapted for young performers, features music by Claude-Michel Shonberg and libretto by Alain Boublil, with English translation by Herbert Kretzmer.

There will be additional performances at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6.

The production includes students from: Santa Rosa High School’s Art Quest, Analy High SChool, Elsie Allen High School, Windsor High School, Maria Carillo High School, Austin Creek Elementary, Sonoma Academy, Mary Collins at Cherry Valley Charter, Twin Hills Middle School, Pathways Charter School, San Miguel Mill Valley, Ursuline High School, Saint Rose Catholic School, Branson School in Ross, and Church Of God Homeschool.
