Mickey Hart

Percussionist Mickey Hart of Grateful Dead fame brings his own band to Healdsburg to perform March 7 at the Raven Theater.

The Mickey Hart Band, which staged a sold-out, 15-date tour in December, the Mickey Hart Band band includes Tony Award-winning singer Crystal Monee Hall, singer Tim Hockenberry, bassist Dave Schools, drummer Ian Herman, guitarist Gawain Matthews, percussionist Sikuru Adepoju and keyboardist Ben Yonas.

The show will feature both new material and music from Hart’s solo and Grateful Dead careers.

Hart, who lives outside Sebastopol, has never rested on his past accomplishments, and keeps experimenting continuously.

Last year, he collaborated on a new dance performance piece with Alonzo King, choreographer and founder of Lines Ballet of San Francisco.

Hart also has been working with scientists from UC Berkeley and other universities to translate light waves from space into into music.

“These are light waves that have been turned into sound waves,” Hart explained in an April 2011 interview.

“We put them in a computer and we make them into music. These are rhythms coming to us from the beginning of time and space,” he said.

The March 7 concert starts at 8 p.m. The doors open at 7 p.m.

The Raven Theater is 115 North St., Healdsburg.
