When nearly two dozen students from the Santa Rosa Charter School and Flowery Elementary School in Sonoma rock out in early May, they’ll have a special guest star — Prairie Prince of The Tubes.

He and other musicians will join the students in a benefit show for the Little Kids Rock program, which provides free instruments and music lessons to more than 160,000 students at over 1,200 schools in 25 cities nationwide.

There will be an auction signed celebrity guitars, including one donated by Prairie Prince, at 6 p.m., followed by the live show at 7 p.m., on Sunday, May 6, at George’s Nightclub, 842 Fourth St., San Rafael.

“I don’t have any kids, but I’m uncle and a great uncle,” Prairie Prince said. “All of nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews, are interested in music, and I’ve been inspiring and teaching them for years.”

So stepping up to help other people’s kids seemed a logical step.
