After 13 years as conductor of the Santa Rosa Junior College Orchestra, Cynthia Weichel will lead her last concert with the orchestra at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 19, in the Burbank Auditorium on campus, 1501 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa.

Overall, Weichel has been conducting for nearly three decades, and holds a degree in conducting from California State University, Sacramento.

Peter Duranceau, SRJC student and winner of the Etude Music Competition, will join the orchestra for Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23, Allegro.

Jonah Kaufman, a student in conducting at the college, will lead the orchestra in Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance Op. 72, No. 2.

The SRJC choirs will join the orchestra in “Finlandia,” by Sibelius.

The concert’s program also includes work by Gade, Coleridge-Taylor and Gershwin.

Admission to the concert is free. The suggested donation is $5.

Starting next fall, Joe Perea, full-time faculty instructor and director of bands at SRJC, will lead the Santa Rosa Junior College Orchestra.
