Santa Rosa’s Wells Fargo Center for the Arts broke its previous record last Friday, May 31, with the highest first-day ticket sales for its just-announced 2013-2014 season.

More than 2,400 tickets were purchased, for nearly $150,000, a 60-percent increase over last year’s first day of season ticket sales.

That makes this the biggest opening day in the center’s 32-year history.

The center’s 1600-seat Ruth Finley Person Theater is currently closed for a $2.8 million renovation. The new season will open there Aug. 16 with singer Patti LaBelle.

August also will feature performances by singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile, Aug. 18; country star Randy Travis, Aug. 21,  and comedian Ron White, Aug. 24.

In all, the 2013-14 season includes 39 performances and special events.
