"Gang Star Dreams" by Tom Everhart

The characters from Charles Schulz’s “Peanuts” comic strips have appeared in many media, from animated films to plush dolls.

Among the most interesting  “Peanuts”-inspired projects are the paintings and silkscreen prints of Southern California artist Tom Everhart.

The new Norcal Modern gallery at 115 Plaza St. in Healdsburg is showing some of Everhart’s fanciful depictions of Snoopy and his friends, featuring 11 new silkscreen editions and six original paintings, through the month of April.

After meeting Schulz in 1980, Everhart began drawing special projects for Schulz and United Media, the syndicate that distributes “Peanuts.”

In 1991, Charles Schulz and United Media drafted a legal agreement to allow Everhart to use subject matter from Schulz’s “Peanuts strip in his art. Schulz died in 2000, but Everhart is authorized to continue using the characters.

Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
