Last November, San Francisco political humorist Will Durst predicted that it would be tough to mock a popular newcomer like President Obama.

willdurst3   But Will never shirks his duty,  so here are  some sample shots:

On Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor:

“It took Obama about a third of the time to pick a Supreme Court justice that it did to pick his family dog.”

On Obama’s quest for more diversity on the Supreme Court:

“I love the fact that Obama picked a Hispanic with immigrant parents from Puerto Rico. Apparently, the search for the albino midget lesbian unwed Bangladeshi mother with a bum leg and lycanthropy fell a bit short.”

On our battles with pirates on the high seas:

“Pirates? What’s next? Scurvy? Hilary had to talk tough: ‘The dead ones are the lucky ones!’ We should get Hilary a parrot to carry on her shoulder. And Joe Biden an eye patch, or a mouth patch, so he SHUTS UP!”

Of course, to be fair, Will picks on Republicans, too.

On Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s decision to quit:

“Sarah Palin is the gift that keeps on giving. For comics going cold turkey on Bush, she is our Methadone.”

Here’s a two-fer, on Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina, who said he was hiking the Appalachian Trail but slipped away to a tryst in Argentina, AND on the mainstream media’s fascination with Michael Jackson:

“If Michael Jackson had died a week earlier, Mark Sanford would not only be the most relieved man in America, he wouldn’t even be in America. He’d be in Argentina still.”

On unrest in the Mideast:

“The Iranians are revolting because they’re shocked at the corruption of their leaders, but here in America, we’ve learned to grade on a curve.”

And of course, on the economy:

“When everybody in America knows the name of the Secretary of the Treasury, that’s not good.”
