Michael Van Why (above) is best-known at the 6th Street Playhouse in Santa Rosa for his starring roles in main-stage musical productions, such as “Little Shop of Horrors” and “La Cage Aux Folles.”

He also plays the rather demanding role of God in the playhouse’s current rock musical, “The Possession of Mrs. Jones,” closing Sunday, Dec. 6.

But Van Why is also the founder of Project Applause, created to support and showcase singing talent.

Project Applause presents “La Scala,”  a concert of songs by Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, Gilbert & Sullivan and more, at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at the 6th Street Playhouse.

The evening starts with hors d’oeuvres at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $25 in advance, $28 at the door. Phone (707) 523-4185, ext. 1, or email boxoffice@6thstreetplayhouse.com. The address is 52 W. Sixth St.
