A locally made horror film called “The Violent Kind”  has been accepted into the 2010 Sundance Film Festival, said  Don Lewis, co-producer of the movie.

“The film was shot entirely in Sonoma County by Mitchell Altieri and Phil Flores, two locals who go by the name ‘The Butcher Brothers,'” Lewis said. “The film is much like the duo’s previous horror film, ‘The Hamiltons,’ which is really about family struggles, but couched in the horror genre.  Our director of photography was James Laxton, who shot ‘Medicine for Melancholy.'”

When not shooting on location, Altieri and Flores work from their office in San Rafael, Lewis said.

The Sundance Film Festival runs Jan. 21-31 in Park City, Utah. The festival’s web site (sundance.bside.com) lists five screenings for “The Violent Kind” between Jan. 25 and 31.

Not of all the arts action during January will be at the film festival.  Meanwhile, also in Park City during the same time frame, longtime local artist T Barney will exhibit 20 of his marble sculptures at the District,1205 Iron Horse Drive, opening with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 16.
