George Winston

Pianist George Winston has a lot of fans, but it turns out that he is a fan of the Dance Palace in Point Reyes station.

On Jan. 16, he’ll perform at the venue and donate his fee, in order to help raise funds for the community center there.

A master at melding various musical influences, he’ll play a program called  “Piano Dance,” a selection of New Orleans R& B, stride and folk. So come prepared to do some high-steppin’.

Winston was born in 1949, grew up mainly in Montana and later spent time in Mississippi and Florida. His favorite music was instrumental rock and R&B by Floyd Cramer, The Ventures, Booker T & The MG’s,  Jimmy Smith and others.

“I was always an avid listener, especially to instrumental music,” Winston notes on his web site (www.georgewinston.com.) During his long career, he has mixed those sounds and made them his own.

The concert show starts at 8 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Dance Palace. 5th and B Streets in Point Reyes Station. Tickets: $27 general; $25 seniors. Information: (415) 663-1075, dance@horizoncable.com or www.dancepalace.org
