Nothing punches up a musical comedy like a little philosophy and economics.
U.S. economist and social philosopher Thorstein Veblen’s book “Theory of the Leisure Class” and its controversial economic theories form the basis for”The Price of Everything: A Musical Vaudeville,” with music by Richard B. Evans and book and lyrics by Charles Leipart.
The musical vaudeville romp features a large ensemble cast performing musical numbers that include “Greed is Good,” “We’re Broke,” “Things Can Change” and “The Price of Everything.”
The first local production of show, directed by Nancy Prebilich, runs Jan. 22 to Feb. 7 in the Studio Theatre at the 6th Street Playhouse, 52 W. 6th St., Santa Rosa.
Those who remember Prebilich’s star turn as Sally Bowles in Cinnabar Theater’s “Cabaret” five years back, and her valiant attempt to bring a hip-hop festival to Petaluma, will want to support her newest endeavor.
Show times: 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets: $17-$22. 523-4185, 6thstreetplayhouse.com.
