"Troubled Water"

One of Sonoma County’s most enduring hidden cultural assets is Eleanor Nichols’ Sonoma Film Institute, headquartered on the Sonoma State University campus.

Running continuously since 1973,  SFI screens some 50 films from all over world between September and May each year.

And SFI is a bargain for film lovers.  Admission costs $6, $5 for non-SSU students and senior citizens, $4 for SFI members and children under 12, and $2 for SSU students.

The SFI spring schedule gets under way with Norwegian film, “Troubled Water,” released last year and shown here with English subtitles. Directed Erik Poppe, the film deals with an ex-convict trying to put his past behind him.

Show times are 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, and 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14.  All screenings are in Warren Auditorium, Ives Hall,  on the SSU campus at 1801 E. Cotati Ave.  in Rohnert Park.
