This weekend’s calendar is crowded with Dia de los Muertos events. But here’s one Day of the Dead observance that’s a bit different.

Ready for singing skulls?

In Spanish, the word is for skulls is calaveras. The Imaginists Theatre Collective will present “Calaveras del Monton (Calaveras from the Heap)” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29-30, in its studio at 461 Sebastopol Ave., Santa Rosa. Please arrive from 15 to 20 minutes early.

With songs, dance, music and vignettes, the bilingual show brings the dead to life, with characters including the drag queen Calaveras Kikis, the astrologer Calaveras Walter Supermacado and Calaveras Ivory Billed Woodpecker.

Traditional Latin American music will be performed by Duo Cantaflor, flautist Isaac Lopez and the women’s duo, De Colores.

Admission is on sliding scale, from $5 to $20, but no one will be turned away.
