Remember the 1965 hit “Time Has Come Today” by the Chambers Brothers? That psychedelic soul sound is hard to forget.

Lester Chambers, 70, former lead singer of the Chambers Brothers, moved to Petaluma last year.

Homeless and needing medical care, he got support from the Sweet Relief organization and from fellow musicians, including Yoko Ono and Steve Cropper, formerly of Booker T. & The MGs.

Despite his troubles, Chambers continued to perform. He played at the Dance Palace in Point Reyes Station last June, and he’ll appear at 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at George’s Nightclub, 842 Fourth St., San Rafael.

Chambers’ band includes his son, Dylan Chambers, on vocals and percussion, Chick Petersen on guitar, Kim Roy Berry on  keyboards, Baron Chase on bass and Joe Provost on drums.

In addition to Chambers Brothers hits, Chambers’ repertoire includes the blues songs of Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett, and “People Get Ready” by Curtis Mayfield.

Tickets: $12 in advance, $15 at the door. Information: (415) 226-0262,   http://www.georgesnightclub.com
