'Ghost of the Little Black Dress' by Jude Vasconcellos

A fashion show means impossibly skinny models sporting clothes no one you know could ever afford, right?

Not this time.

The “Trashion” fashion show features stylish clothing and accessories created by artists and designers from recycled materials and cast-off junk.

The event beings at 5 p.m. Saturday, April 2, with cocktails, live music and a runway fashion show in Andrews Hall at the Sonoma Community Center, 276 E. Napa St., Sonoma.

After the fashion show, the party moves upstairs to Gallery 212 and the opening reception for an exhibit of “Trashion” creations by local artists, which runs through April 23.

After the call went out for entries, a jury chose from dozens of submissions. The panel included: Pamela Johnson, costume designer at Sonoma State University; Shelly Willis, Art In Public Places administrator in Sacramento; Kate Eilertsen, executive director of Sonoma Valley Museum of Art; Kathy Swett, executive director of Sonoma Community Center.
